Mayor Tom Henry joined by the Director of Community Development Nancy Townsend, developer Barrett & Stokely and other city leaders held a “Topping Off” ceremony for The Riverfront at Promenade Park mixed-use project, which is located on the northeast corner of Superior Street and Harrison Street. The topping off ceremony is to celebrate the placement of the final beam upon the structure, which is a milestone in its construction.

“This project represents true community partnership and collaboration,” said Nancy Townsend, Director of Community Development. “The Capital Improvement Board, the Allen County Commissioners, the Fort Wayne Downtown Development Trust, Fort Wayne City Council, along with many other partners, played an integral part in making this project a reality. This effort was led by the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission who worked directly with the Barrett & Stokely team. Together we worked to find a way to involve all the community partners.”

Prior to the celebration City, County, and community leaders who were instrumental in the development of this project were given the opportunity to sign the final beam. Construction began in February following a groundbreaking ceremony.

“The Redevelopment Commission is proud to partner with the Barrett & Stokely team and lead the local partnership effort that helped make this project happen,” said Jonathan Leist, Deputy Director of Redevelopment. “This is another great example of the work that this commission does, which in turn benefits our community and continues to make our downtown a great place to be. We strive to find the right balance of public-private partnerships to ensure the City is making responsible investments in the infrastructure necessary for new development.”

The garage is expected to be completed in early 2022 and the apartments and commercial space in early 2023.

“The Riverfront at Promenade Park development demonstrates that the public planning and work with our riverfront is not only providing great places for families and all people in our community to gather, but it is also bringing private development projects to our City. We’re beginning to see a true return on our investment that will continue for years to come,” said Mayor Henry. “I want to thank Rex Barrett and his team at Barrett & Stokely for being tremendous partners in this collective effort to help ensure that Fort Wayne grows and succeeds.”

“We are extremely happy with the progress we have made in construction of The Riverfront at Promenade,” said Rex Barrett, Executive Vice-President of Barrett & Stokely, Inc. “We appreciate the efforts of all the City and County personnel, who have helped us throughout the process.  It has been a true partnership.  We hope this project will be a catalyst for the continued development of the overall vision for the Riverfront.”

The City has worked closely with the Indianapolis-based development firm on this private investment since 2019. The six-story, mixed-use building will include more than 200 apartments, seven town homes, and a 900-space parking garage. There is approximately 30,000 square feet of office space and nearly 15,000 square feet of retail space. The is an investment of $88.7 million.
